THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- Wow, I did NOT expect Hana to die. She was pretty much my favorite character. What a tweest. I really thought she were here for the long run. Well, I guess she was in the manga since this show adapted (and correct me if I'm wrong) 16 volumes of material. That explains why the show felt so incredibly rushed. The art and animation was also laughably bad. I really enjoyed the music, but that stopped halfway through when I noticed they were just constantly repeating the same tracks. This project felt rushed in almost every single aspect and that's quite sad. It could've been something really good, because the premise and story development throughout is actually very compelling. If they had taken their time, they could've easily gotten 32 well-paced episodes out of 16 volumes. Instead we get a bit more than a third of that, resulting in an enjoyable but very messy show. And I have to mention the REALLY bad cliffhanger. This doesn't even feel like the closure of a season with a few threads left hanging, because NOTHING gets resolved. I know Netflix is calling it "Part A" and we'll likely get a sequel, but since its length is one cour long it's fair to call it a full season. And damn, this has to be one of the least satisfying endings of a season that I've ever watched. 5/10. I bet the manga is a really good read tho. It's too bad it's not licensed. |

lolwat, that was possibly one of the most abrupt endings to a season I've ever seen. Like the OP said, Netflix has this labeled as Part 1, but I'm just going to read the manga instead of wait for another subpar Gonzo adaptation. |

The only redeeming thing about this show is the OP and ED Amatsuki's great song was the only thing i watched a few times over and over again. and majiko's ED was a great ballad, unlike other skip able ED songs she doesnt die btw, and comes back in the manga... pretty lame tho, and mightve been more interesting if she did die |

Had the Q U A L I T Y and pace I'd expect from a Gonzo anime. Haven't read the manga, but it's easy to tell how rushed it is because the content feels crammed in. There's some interesting moments and the overall writing seems like its good. It's just not presented well enough for me to care about anything. If it truly did adapt 16 volumes in this season, then that'll make this an even more rushed adaptation than Houshin Engi. 4/10 |

Ok y’all I see all the hate in the comments and I havent read the manga so I thought y’all were overreacting. But then the way they ended episode 12 was so abrupt that it made me pissed. I was fine with the jarry animation, the abrupt scene changes, the bullshit science, not feeling the emotion when I’m supposed to, and even I could tell some parts were rushed. But that ending just was unacceptable. I don’t even know who the main character in this show is anymore. I’ll still give it a 5 because it’s a interesting and unique story and the OP and ED go hard. Also Hana is not dead in a show that I thought would be the opposite of plot armour still has plot armour that’s unbelievable lmao. If I were to rank it out of all the spring anime I would have it above We never Learn but below Bocchi and senko san which would probably make this around #10 this season. |

Just binged through it and oof, this is a pretty poor show. Terrible writing and while I like the premise, it feels so half-assed and rushed. Guess I really only stuck around because of the premise, but they aren't really doing anything with it and they completely gloss over the interesting stuff, like why the hell are there dinosaurs and giant bugs? How much time has actually passed? That's something that takes countless thousands to millions of years of evolution, but those vaults stayed intact with food? There was a freaking luxury boat in perfect condition, waiting to be used...on a mountain...and the water levels just happened to rise perfectly high enough to use it? This show is just such a waste of an interesting idea. Maybe Dr. Stone will offer up a more interesting post-apocalyptic story this year lol |

That's it? That's where it ends? Well, I am giving this anime a 7/10 for now assuming there is going to be a sequel. If no sequel is announced, I will come back to decrease the score. The concept was quite interesting. I think I want to read the manga now. (Although, the manga's art is dreadful!) Hana's side of the story is much more interesting than Natsu's. Actually, Natsu's side of the story made me almost drop this anime. I knew the white haired guy was trouble the moment he'd shown up in episode 1, and shot the big guy, while looking more relaxed than anyone else. |

Wow.. that's how you end it ? What was even the fucking point of this show ? Like the way it ended seriously threw me off. They don't care about the direction and structure of this show at all, what the hell was the purpose of it ? What the hell did they hope to achieve with it ? They surely aren't making any money off this abomination so why not at least try to give it a proper ending ? I'm confused, and furious. This has been the biggest waste of my time in years, the worst thing I have watched in years by a large marge. Just atrocious.. 3/10 is a generous score. |

If you don't like the art of the manga at first, I'm sure you'll appreciate it more once you're immersed in the story and see how this style can wonderfully convey a large range of emotions. FuMomo-kun said: Actually Ryô looks quite different in the manga and makes a totally different first impression, you could check chapter 50 for the scene in question if you're interested (though in the manga it's not the first scene we see him in at all). Haru looks very different too (and is naughty in the beginning).I knew the white haired guy was trouble the moment he'd shown up in episode 1, and shot the big guy, while looking more relaxed than anyone else. Overall, even with completely destroyed character development, very bad animation and presentation, and messed up transitions, I don't think the anime was that bad, the concept and the highlights of the story being enough to carry the show. It's just that the manga is 1000 times better. But it's true that they should have done an effort for the end of this first part (which is not the end of the show at first glance), even adding 5 minutes like they did in episode 7 would have made a much more proper ending, showing : Aramaki breaking Ango's hand; Ango's rape attempt being revealed; Ryô and Ango being expelled from the camp; And Aramaki leaving with Ayu, in search for Hana Hopefully there will be 2 parts to cover the remaining 19 volumes of the manga (which would still result in a huge rush). |

I followed the manga for years and even wanted to join a group that was scanlating it at one point, so I was so shocked when I saw this got a series since it ended 2 years ago and isn't a mainstream manga. The manga is INCREDIBLE guys. So moving and worth reading. It even inspired me to be more serious in my Japanese studies so I could read the original. And I got a friend to get me the mangas during a Japan trip so I could make that happen. I was so delightfully shocked and excited to see this on Netflix, but the animation and pacing felt really lackluster. I wonder how this would even turn a profit? I only lasted about an episode and just came to this thread to see everyone's impressions. Not too great but I don't want to be ungrateful they produced my favorite manga (totally unexpected!) Maybe season 2 will be better...? (Not getting hopes up though because usually s1 has to be really popular and well loved for that to happen) |

I personally really liked the anime overall although the ending was a bit unsatisfying. It is also weird that so many volumes were tried to be fit into a single season. For now I am givin this anime 8/10. If the second season doesn't come, I will probably decrease it to 6 or 7. Natsu is now one of the characters I hate the most in an anime btw. Her actions made me so triggered throughout the the entire anime :D omfg |

I actually cannot believe this was how they adapted it. I can easily say this is the most disappointing anime I have ever seen. I thought the source material would be enough to carry this show even though it was by Gonzo but they couldn't even do that right. I don't want to go on a rant about how good this could have been but, as a manga reader, the characters and the plot is honestly one of the best I have ever had the pleasure of reading. Yet, they decided to adapt what... like 83 chapters into 12 episodes. This anime needed time in order to develop the storyline properly and let us actually see into how the characters adapt to their new surroundings and the world they're in. It's all just so rushed and they decided to end it on that cliffhanger. What an actual joke. 3/10 and that's me being nice Please just read the manga. |

as far as a story goes I think there's a lot of potential. but it's obvious this was extremely rushed. As much as I hate to say this, I'd of preferred a lot more character development. I feel these 12 episodes probably should of made it to a light cliffhanger around the partial summer b group escaping Autumns camp. We also missed huge chunks if story in some areas... especially around the volcano eruption? like wtf, no cataclysmic episode(s)... just," oh no, its ashy in some places. bet that sucked for some people, let's move on." I do want to watch a second season, but I'm going to have to see if Netflix has any Japanese audio because the English voice acting is 80-90% terrible. I don't think the animation its self is the worst, but I've definitely seen better. |

What the fuck was that ending?! That's not how you end a season of a show, especially if you don't even know if it'll get a sequel. Not bad overall but rushed as much as Tokyo Ghoul:re. 6/10 Guess I'll read the manga. |

Hana is going through hell. She was being abused, overworked, almost got raped and now presumably dead while her boyfriend Natsu (also a main character) was living the life in his shiny yacht lmao Also, I didn't know this was part 1. If I knew that, I wouldn't have watched it. I thought it was gonna cover all the material. Fucking cliffhanger, and an awful one. It's like a 24 ep anime cut in half. That's not how a season finale is supposed to be. This anime is bad, but I want it to be a success so they don't fucking cancel part 2. That would be worse. 6/10 |

Gonna end in a cliffhanger huh? Hana's death is pretty suprising, not because I never thought she would die but the fact that she lasted this long... This could have been a pretty awesome post-apocalyptic survival anime if not for the animation and the weak storyline. Like the dark elements were in my opinion the most interesting part. |

I'm pretty positive Hana's not dead. She would've had a scene about remembering Arashi or something for her last moments. She'll probably survive miraculously, and someone will find her. Besides the ending, this anime wasn't so bad. The first few episodes most likely threw people off because of how the majority of the characters acted. 80% of the time, Natsu made me want to throw hands, but then I remember she's 14 and was pretty much a shut-in. Almost every character's first impressions were either okay or bad but most of them were 'randomly picked' people, so it's not like they've trained to live in an apocalypse like the Summer A team. Halfway through the series, the show became enjoyable to watch because by then the characters were adjusted to surviving and you find out more about the project. I thought the storyline was interesting. It had potential and more people would've enjoyed it if the pacing wasn't rushed. I also felt like the ending could've redeemed itself more with some closure about Ryo and Ango's recent actions. If the production could've just added one more episode, the finale wouldn't have been so rushed, and the viewers' last memories wouldn't have been 'Hana got sunk by the current and everyone left the cave.' |

That sure ended suddenly, it was almost like there will be another follow-up episode but eh! I don't how many time Hana has survived death and I doubt she really drowned. I guess the series didn't give us the fate of Arashi and the gang, especially after he saw that note by Hana. We still didn't get to know the reaper in the story. Ango and Ryo, when are they going to get punished? The project, how exactly is Hana's father involved and his mystery friend? Who is that mystery masked guy in the summer B team? Overall it was a simple series of survival, but it lacked intensity for me. It failed as a SciFi, failed at being dramatic, failed at characterization, failed at being horrific or thrilling. I watched with a straight face all along with no certain reaction, even when Hana was drowning. A series should be able to get an audience's reaction and this one failed to give one. How it got passed the 6 rating is a mystery that we will never know! Worst ensemble characters I've ever seen. The events were so boring, especially when they had to do those flashbacks for backstory purposes. 4/10 |

So they end the story with that cliffhanger. They probably will make a part 2 or season 2 to squish the rest of the manga. Pretty average adaptation, bad animation and rush story, so please people READ THE MANGA, PLEASE, I'M BEGGING YOU, IT'S SO MUCH BETTER, TRUST ME. So I'm gonna give it a 6/10. The concept is AMAZING. I felt like this anime was sooooooo rushed and paced badly but the idea of it is really awesome and I binged it in one sitting. First of all, fuck you, Ango. Fuck you, Ryo. You two are despicable beings. Holy shit, you two can fucking die. How can you two redeem yourselves? Killed that random guy from Autumn, attempted rape on Hana and attempted murder too. Great. EDIT: After finishing the manga, I take back my harsh words. Their characters definitely get redeemed in the manga! Secondly, I can't believe four different teams have met up but Summer B is still by themselves lmao. Like, what the actual fuck. They're trying to build up to the reunion of the lovers, I get it. But seriously. Gonna read manga now. Fuck this anime for ending at a cliffy. Bawse said: Which chapter does the anime end at? If someone could answer I'd appreciate it so much! Thank you in advance! That sure ended quite abrupt almost an actual cliffhanger sort to say. Quite an interesting setting and concept, seems these post apocalypse stories are popping up more recently. I always like what kind of backstory they put into it and tie the characters to the story. The general pacing was sometimes weird but had per episode a pretty solid pacing. Some parts did felt rushed, yet held a very emotional key factor. I do wonder why they abruptly stopped here rather than releasing this as a 26 episode anime instead. With the many lose ends and holes I do wonder what will happen next and surely hope it gets a second season! |

Terrible (in quality) ending for a season of an anime would be a 8-9 rate to me by the theme IF well executed. The way it was, it is like a 6.5/10 IMO. And fu* if Hana is dead or alive, my soul is not going to rest until the two "white haired" assh*les be killed. Sadly, by what i am seeing from the beginning of next season... my soul is doomed, so as this anime. ------------------ Btw, i was thinking about keep along reading the manga, since so many told it is the "pure and good right version" of the history, but... How this "quality" of art is even still allowed in Japan? |

Honestly its not that bad imo. I think they are somewhat good enough with major plot presentation. They also provided really important flasback for example about those elite team A which made the plot much easier to follow. Before watching this. I'm already except they will rushed the story pacing into oblivion because this type of particular manga is crammed into 12 episode which is always very bad idea. And yeah. I'm right, its VEERRRY RUSHED. I mean why did you excepted some good storyteller here??. Also i'm agreed with that weird cliffhanger lmao. But when i watched this type of adaptation, i'm usually only focused on how they handled main plot of this anime from 'summary of the source itself' and not really placing my attention on minor stuff. Which i want to said again. Its not that bad. After binged it today, honestly i dont really feel rushed. I think watching it binge and have zero knowlegde about the source is contributed with my view about this anime right now. Btw i will NOT Read the manga unless they are availble LEGALLY at my country. 6/10. Lets see what they are doing about the second part. Will lower or increase the score based on the sequel. |
